A Letter To My Future Self
Dear Future Self,
Hello! How are you doing? I don't know what part of life you are in right now but I hope you're doing fine. I wrote this letter to personally congratulate you in going this far despite all the struggles and pains I have caused you. I am so proud of you. This is also my way of apologizing for all the wrong decisions and doubts that you have to deal, maybe up until now.
But, despite everything, I want you to know that I fought for you; that I tried my hardest to figure out what life is like for you. I poured everything I had into giving you the best life you could ever have; I prepared and studied hard so you could achieve your goals and pursue your passion. I may have let you down several times, but I never once considered giving up because I was thinking of you. I was thinking of the life you'll be living.
I guess, I made it. I hope I did. The reason I’m telling you this is because I want to remind you how far you have gone through, how much you’ve already lived in the little moments that have shaped your world and molded your heart in the most beautiful way possible. I want you to accept the wonders and hiccups of this crazy journey that only you have experienced and continue to experience.I want you to appreciate everything and everyone, as much as I am right now.
Inevitably, you will lose your way, stumble, cry, feel as if the world is crashing down on you, experience heartache, and possibly even failure. Although I hope not, you will most likely be broken again. Please promise me that you will not give up on life and living in any of these situations, in any moments of deep hurt and dark pits of despair and darkness. Life is beautiful, and worth living even in its darkest moments; please promise me you will not forget that. When life gets tough, all you have to do is remember the past, look back to where I am now, and see how we were able to overcome the difficult days, heart-breaking moments, and nearly giving up times. Even so, you're still standing. Stronger, I supposed. Life may not have provided you with complete clarity, but you’ve come a long way.
I hope you understand that there is always tomorrow to start over, to be better, and to try again. When things don't go as planned, it doesn't mean it's the end of the road for you. It could simply be a detour leading you to better paths, or it could be a chance to slow down and re-calibrate your course. It's okay to take a break from time to time; you don't always need to have everything figured out. Breathe and learn.
Remember to live genuinely. To be who you are, not minding all the critiques and criticisms of anyone else. You are perfectly imperfect, and I have always appreciated your eccentricities. You want to learn new things, travel to new places, and experience everything that life has to offer. You want to laugh, dance, and cheer, and you want to put your heart and soul into everything you do. You care about so many people, and they care about you; do not let today’s troubles ruin your chance at spending time with these people in the future. You have so many interests and things you still want to do; don't let any circumstance keep you from doing them all. Follow your heart and do what makes you happy.
I hope you are bolder, braver, stronger, happier, and healthier today than you were yesterday. Sometimes I wish I could catch up with you faster because when emptiness hits me, I seem to crash. But believe me when I say that I am working hard every day to improve myself for you. I'll make you proud as well.
I may not know what you are and what you have become. But I know one thing, 'You will be okay.'.
Be kind, work on your passion and love yourself as I have loved you today.
Love,
Your Past-Self
